Growing up, nothing made me feel more adult than ordering a Shirley Temple. I think I was drinking them long before even I knew what a cocktail was. Somehow they were the exception to my parent's rule that I couldn't drink soda - so I ordered them whenever I could.
That magical combination of 7-Up, grenadine, and maraschino cherries kept me hopped up on sugar throughout much of my childhood. Since non-virgin cocktails entered my life, Shirley Temple's have become a distant memory. That is, until this dessert came along.
This cake could not be easier! (In fact, it's perfect for kids.) To start, combine 7-Up and vanilla cake mix. Toss maraschino cherries in flour (so they don't sink) and fold them into your cake batter. Bake it in a bundt pan for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
While that's baking you can whip up a quick glaze composed of powdered sugar, cream, vanilla, and maraschino cherry juice. When the cake is cool, cover it with glaze and garnish with - you guessed it - more maraschino cherries. Get ready for a throwback!PIN IT FOR LATER:
