Highland Park gets a new watering hole
For the first time in more than 20 years, the city of Highland Park has a place to grab a cocktail, WDET reports. Owner Lawrence J. Johnson opened his renovated Woodward Ave. Bar & Grille sports bar for the first time on Friday, April 19, with a lineup beer, wine, and cocktails and a full menu offering items like chicken quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, and lamb chops. Woodward Ave. even features a fenced-in patio for al fresco drinking.
Indian street food restaurant expands
Metro Detroit’s outstanding Indian street food mini chain Neehee’s opened a location this month in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Neehee’s, known for its extensive vegetarian and vegan Indian menu, opened its original Canton restaurant in 2009 and added a second restaurant in Troy in the fall of 2016. The Ohio restaurant, located at 6080 Sawmill Rd. in Dublin, is Neehee’s third outpost and its first franchise establishment. The company is also planning a fourth location for Hanover, Illinois.
New downtown Detroit happy hour
Downtown Detroit restaurant Besa is now offering happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Expect options like $3 oysters, $12 charcuterie boards, and $5 plates of french fries alongside $4 specials on draft beers and $6 wine pours. The restaurant is also adding Sunday hours from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning April 28.
Shores Theatre gets a restaurant makeover
David Harden, the owner of whiskey-devoted Butter Run Saloon, has purchased the historic Shores Theatre in St. Clair Shores with plans to turn it into a restaurant and music venue, according to the Detroit News. The renovation is expected to take roughly a year and a half to complete.
