Opinion: Tottenham must hijack Chelsea’s Piatek move to save Kane

Tottenham are still on a seemingly endless hunt for a striker to play second fiddle to Harry Kane, and record-breaking Genoa starlet Krzysztof Piatek could be the perfect solution.

What’s the story?

According to reports, Fernando Llorente is set to leave Tottenham at the end of this season.

The towering Spaniard was brought in to be Kane’s deputy after the Vincent Janssen experiment failed, but just like Janssen the 33 year-old has struggled, scoring just once in the Premier League for Spurs.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are leading Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign Genoa’s Piatek, but Tottenham should absolutely throw their hat in the ring.

Chelsea are of course looking for some fresh firepower up front as Alvaro Morata continues to struggle, and the Blues will not be able to rely on the 32 year-old Olivier Giroud forever.

Piatek has the physicality, tenacity and raw goalscoring instincts to fit in perfectly as the Blues’ Diego Costa replacement, but Spurs should hijack the move to get support for Kane.

The perfect Llorente replacement?

He may not be a household name, but Piatek’s record of eight goals in his first six Serie A games is the most by any player through their first six games since 1950, quite a feat when you consider some of the great goalscorers that have made their way through Serie A.

The Polish international joined Genoa this season after scoring 32 goals in 63 league games for Polish side Cracovia, and his goals this season look even more impressive when you look at the points they earned.

The 23 year-old scored once in a 2-1 win over Empoli, once in a 1-0 win over Bologna and grabbed a brace in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Frosinone.

Piatek is extremely strong on the ball, fantastic in the air, constantly works the channels, and most importantly he scores crucial goals, something that simply can’t be said for Llorente and Janssen at Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy must find adequate support for Kane to prevent his persistent ankle injuries from becoming a problem, and a January move for Piatek could solve this problem for years to come.

So, Tottenham fans, would Piatek be good support for Kane? Should you make a move for the Polish international in January? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
